Wintry weather is forcing East Texas schools to close or delay classes as freezing rain and sleet approach.

TYLER, Texas — Due to wintry weather coming into East Texas, schools have started announcing campus closures and delays for the safety of students and staff.

CBS19 Weather Experts say by the end of the day Friday, arctic air will come into East Texas, changing rain to sleet and freezing rain by daybreak Saturday. There will be all day rounds of freezing rain and sleet Saturday into Saturday night as temperatures fall into the low 20s. 

The mix of sleet and freezing rain will gradually change to some crusty snow as the storm winds down and exits East Texas Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will remain below freezing until Monday afternoon.
