EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — Spirit of Children, the charitable foundation of Spirit Halloween, has once again brought Halloween festivities to Providence Children’s Hospital, brightening the day for young patients.
On Monday, children at Providence participated in a Halloween party featuring costumes, pumpkin decorating, and celebration kits.
The annual event is part of Spirit of Children’s ongoing efforts to support Child Life departments across the U.S. and Canada.
According to Providence, Child Life departments are critical to making hospitals less scary for children and their families as they help support the psychosocial and developmental needs of children and families facing medical challenges.
Since 2007, the Spirit of Children has raised over $145 million for more than 160 partner hospitals.
This year, the goal is to raise $17 million to expand Child Life services further.
Ana Aburto, Child Life Services Coordinator at Providence Children’s Hospital, expressed gratitude, saying, “Year after year, Spirit Halloween comes to our hospital with the sole mission to make a difference in the lives of our smallest patients.”
She added, “It’s incredible to see the smiles on our patients’ faces and for them to know they still get to be a part of the Halloween festivities. We are incredibly thankful to Spirit Halloween and their entire team, who make this possible.”
According to Spirit of Children, 100% of the donations made by Spirit Halloween guests will go directly to local hospital partners, allowing them to fund staff, expand therapy programs, and educational resources for Child Life departments.
