CBBC says blood Type O is critically low, and say all blood types are urgently needed.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — The Coastal Bend Blood Center is urging residents to donate blood ahead of expected cold weather, citing a critical shortage of blood type O.

“We are in critical need of blood type O right now,”  Coastal Bend Blood Center’s Ashley Ramirez said. “If you are blood type O, please schedule your lifesaving appointment.”

Ramirez says the donation process takes about 20 to 25 minutes, with the actual blood draw lasting seven to eight minutes.

Walk-ins are welcome, and donors must be at least 17 years old with a photo ID.

“Before severe weather hits, we want to make sure we have enough blood on our shelves,” the spokesperson said.

While blood type O is the most urgent need, officials stress all blood types are needed daily.

Walk-ins are welcome at donor centers and blood mobiles.

Ramirez said donation hours may change due to the weather. She encourages the community to follow Coastal Bend Blood Center on its social media pages for the latest updates.
