ARLINGTON, Texas — The City of Arlington has announced several service updates and closures from January 23 to January 27, 2026, in response to winter weather conditions. Residents are advised to stay informed through the city’s social media channels and e-newsletter.

Republic Services, Arlington’s garbage and recycling collector, will not operate commercial collection routes on January 24. The city will continue to communicate with Republic Services regarding potential changes to collection services on January 26 and 27, according to a press release from the city.

All seven public library locations are scheduled to be open during normal hours on January 24, with the George W. Hawkes Downtown Library and the East Library and Recreation Center open on January 25. Libraries also serve as warming centers during business hours. Additionally, three overnight shelters will be available through partnerships with The Salvation Army, First United Methodist Church, and Nations Church, providing free transportation for residents in need.

Recreation centers will operate during normal hours on January 24 and 25, except for the Dottie Lynn Recreation Center, which is closed on Sundays. These centers also function as warming centers. The city’s public golf courses and associated restaurants will remain closed through January 27, with potential reopening on January 28, depending on weather conditions.

The Arlington Tennis Center will be closed on January 24 and 25. Arlington Animal Services will operate during normal hours on January 24, but the shelter will be closed to the public on January 25 and 26. Public transportation services, including Handitran and Arlington On-Demand, will not operate on January 24, and service for January 26 will be evaluated based on road conditions, stated the source.
