EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Ahead of the temperature drop this weekend, El Paso and Las Cruces are reminding people of their warming centers.

In El Paso County the following warming centers will be open Monday through Friday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.:

Agua Dulce Community Center (Ilumina Library)
15371 Kentwood Ave. in Horizon CityFabens Community Center
201 BW Camp St. in FabensCanutillo Community Center
7351 Bosque Rd. in Canutillo

The County said it encourages residents to visit the centers if they need to stay warm and comfortable this winter, adding that the El Paso Transportation Authority will be giving people free rides to these warming centers.

These warming centers have been open since Jan. 12.

Meanwhile, the city of Las Cruces has its warming centers set up for the weather and freezing temperatures that are forecasted through Wednesday, Jan. 28.

According to the city, these warming stations will be activated on Saturday, Jan. 24, and anyone in need of warmth and shelter is encouraged to visit the designated facilities during the following times:

Thomas Branigan Memorial Library, 200 E. Picacho Avenue

o10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday & Saturday

o1 – 5 p.m. Sunday

o9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday – Thursday

Meerscheidt Recreation Center, 1600 E. Hadley Avenue

o9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday

o8 a.m. to 12 noon Sunday (will be open as warming station ONLY)

o8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday – Friday

Frank O’Brien Papen Center, 304 Bell Avenue

o8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday

Munson Senior Center, 975 S. Mesquite Street

o8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday

Sage Café, 6121 Reynolds Drive

o9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday

Benavidez Center, 1045 McClure Road

o9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday – Friday

The City of Las Cruces is encouraging anyone to use these resources, adding that staff at each center are prepared for anyone who seeks refuge from the cold.
