EL PASO COUNTY, Colo. (KKTV) – Thankfully, no one was hurt after fire crews responded to a lake in the Security-Widefield area for a possible ice rescue Monday night.
The Security Fire Department responded to Carp Lake at Fontaine Boulevard after receiving several reports around 4:30 p.m. that kids were playing on the ice-covered lake.
According to the fire department, all of the callers were passing by and were not able to confirm if the kids had left the ice or fallen in.
Fire crews responded and said they were unable to find anyone on the ice. Unable to confirm if the kids could be in trouble, crews said they used thermal cameras and visual inspection to continue the search.
Fire crews said they eventually found a concerning part of the ice that appeared to be broken or melted and called in the El Paso County Sheriff’s drone unit and the City of Fountain Ice Rescue crew.
Upon further search, crews said they concluded that no one was in the lake.
“Although we are glad we didn’t have body recovery, this should prove as a strong reminder, ice on bodies of water in this area are very unsafe and unpredictable on thickness,” Security Fire said. “It is not a playground for kids!”
