A woman is accused of accelerating her SUV onto a curb and running over her husband, killing him, Texas authorities say.

Officers in Pasadena were dispatched around 3:30 a.m. Oct. 19 when a witness reported a man being run over by a Chevy Tahoe on a sidewalk, according to a news release.

The 42-year-old victim, Leonardo Mendoza, was taken to a hospital, where police said he died from his injuries.

An investigation revealed Mendoza had been in a verbal fight with his wife, Alina Gonzalez-Morelos, over an unspecified text message, according to police.

He left his house and was walking on the sidewalk when he was struck by his wife’s vehicle, investigators said.

According to court documents, Gonzalez-Morelos said she “accelerated” her Tahoe onto the sidewalk before striking two poles, then Mendoza.

Gonzalez-Morelos was arrested and charged with first-degree murder, court documents reveal.

Pasadena is about a 15-mile drive southeast from downtown Houston.
