Chilly Morning, Pleasant Afternoon

  • October 21, 2025

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Record warmth yesterday was followed by some of the coolest weather in the KCBD/FOX34 viewing area in six months. Today, after the chilly start, a pleasant afternoon.

Below are this morning’s low temperatures reported as of this post. Up until today, this past Sunday was the coolest so far this season. Lubbock’s Sunday morning low was 43°.

This afternoon will be quite pleasant. Under a sunny sky temperatures will be around 20 degrees cooler than yesterday. Today’s highs are average for late October.

Winds will gradually shift from the north to the east and eventually to the south. Wind speeds will generally be near or less than 10 mph.

The cool down follows the first of two cold fronts, which moved through the viewing area last evening.

A chill returns overnight with lows generally in the 40s early tomorrow, Wednesday.

Milder nights and warmer days follow Wednesday and Thursday before the next cold front. That front, the second of two this week, is expected sometime Friday. Give or take. Currently large swings in temperatures are not expected. Rain and even thunderstorms, however, are possible.

Highs will range from near average to as much as ten degrees above.Highs will range from near average to as much as ten degrees above.(KCBD First Alert)

There is a slight chance of light rain developing Thursday morning, mainly over the western viewing area. The rain chance will gradually increase through the afternoon with showers spreading eastward. The greater prospect for rain appears to be Thursday night with a chance of thunderstorms. In addition to locally heavy rain, some storms may be accompanied by small hail and gusty winds.

In addition to the rain chance Thursday and Thursday night, our forecast now includes a slim chance of rain Friday and Saturday. Of course, rain during these periods may affect outdoor activities such as high school football Thursday evening and Friday evening as well as the Tech game Saturday.

The most likely window for measurable rainfall is Thursday night. The most likely window for measurable rainfall is Thursday night.(KCBD First Alert)

The reason for extending the chance of rain is due to low confidence in how quickly this next weather system will move away from the area. Yesterday’s data supported a quicker exit, leading to dry weather late Friday and Saturday. Today’s data has the system lingering, which might keep rain lingering into Saturday. Watch for updates to the forecast!
