EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A teen was arrested after crashing a stolen vehicle on Saturday.
Deouties attempted to stop a white sedan near Rojas Drive and George Dieter Drive after noticing the vehicle’s rear license plate was folded upward and unreadable.
The driver refused to stop and fled at a high rate of speed, disregarding multiple traffic signals, officials said.
The vehicle eventually came to a stop near the 10600 block of Causeway Drive after crashing into shrubbery and an electrical utility box, causing it to overturn.
Witnesses reported seeing two individuals get out and run from the scene, according to deputies.
Both suspects were located a short time later.
The driver was identified as 17-year-old Jose Octavio Rodriguez, accompanied by a juvenile male passenger.
The vehicle was confirmed to have been reported stolen earlier that evening.
Running from law enforcement only makes matters worse,” said Sheriff Oscar Ugarte. “The Sheriff’s Office will use every resource available to locate and arrest those who choose to evade. Accountability and public safety will always remain our top priorities.
Rodriguez was booked into the Downtown Detention Facility for Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, and Duty on Striking Structure, Fixture, or Highway Landscaping ($200 or more), with total bonds set at $35,000.
The juvenile passenger was released to his mother.
