COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State football will play a premier nonconference game at Texas on Sept. 12, and early signs point to the Buckeyes entering Darrell K Royal-Texas Memorial Stadium as underdogs.

Texas is a 2.5-point favorite, according to a recent betting line provided by FanDuel. The point total is set at 47.5 — well over the 21 points scored when the teams met in Columbus last year.

Ohio State and Texas have met on the gridiron five times, with the first matchup coming in 2005.

The Buckeyes have won the last two meetings, giving them a 3-2 edge in series history.

OSU ended Texas’ 2024-25 season with a win in the College Football Playoff semifinals at the Cotton Bowl. The Buckeyes went on to win the national championship 10 days later.

The teams then opened the 2025 season against each other, marking the first matchup in a home-and-home agreement.

Ohio State, in quarterback Julian Sayin’s first start, won 14-7 against Texas. Quarterback Arch Manning will look to get his revenge in this year’s return game.

Big weekend looms for Ohio State basketball

Both Ohio State basketball teams have a big weekend ahead as the calendar turns to February.

The men’s team, coming off a win Monday against Penn State, plays at Wisconsin on Saturday. A victory would give OSU a much-needed Quadrant 1 win as it looks to improve its March Madness resume.

The 11th-ranked women’s team will look to maintain momentum as winners of eight of their last nine. Ohio State hosts Nebraska on Sunday.
