A man suspected by police of having killed his girlfriend on Monday in Carrollton died Tuesday from a self-inflicted gunshot wound during a standoff, police said.

Officers found 24-year-old Briana Casto fatally shot Monday around 10:10 a.m. as they responded to a medical emergency in the 4600 block of North Josey Lane, Carrollton police said in a news release Tuesday.

Police said investigators identified her boyfriend, Jomaar Lee Davis, as the primary suspect, and a warrant was obtained for Davis’ arrest.

On Tuesday, Davis’ phone was found “pinging” in Van Alstyne, according to a news release from the Collin County sheriff’s office.

Law enforcement responded to the area and found Davis barricaded in his vehicle.

Several law enforcement agencies assisted as negotiators attempted to get Davis to exit the vehicle.

Negotiators did have phone contact with Davis, but Collin County deputies said he stopped communicating with law enforcement during the standoff.

As SWAT approached the vehicle, a gunshot was heard. Davis was taken to a hospital, where deputies said he later died from a self-inflicted gunshot.
