LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – The 5th Annual Buffalo Grass Fest will take place Feb. 20-21, combining music education workshops with live performances in a hybrid conference-concert format.
The event grew out of the Texas Music Friendly Community program, which certified Lubbock as a Music Friendly Community in 2020. The Lubbock Music Advisory Committee has used that recognition to develop music education and development programs over the past five years.
Friday’s programming will focus on outreach in partnership with Lubbock ISD Fine Arts, South Plains College and Texas Tech University School of Music. A public forum will be held Friday afternoon at Texas Tech School of Music’s Hemmle Hall.
Video marketing workshops highlight Saturday programming
Saturday workshops at LHUCA will center on using video to enhance music marketing. Sessions will include panels and presentations teaching participants about videography and Reels for image and branding.
Speakers will include a panel with the Clement Hall Band and Thomas Boyd, who was key in producing the Flatland Forever documentary about Flatland Cavalry.
Former Texas State Artist Shelley King will serve as the featured artist, sharing insights into songwriting. King and her band will perform Saturday evening at the Cactus Theater, with opening act John Sprott Blues Band.
Jam session provides platform for local musicians
A jam session and showcase will allow musicians to sign up during registration to participate with area local musicians forming the back line. The opportunity targets songwriters, students and emerging artists in the community.
