PLANO Matthew Smith’s 8-yard scoring pass to Dylan Mitchell with 27 seconds left in the game lifted McKinney to a 28-24 victory over Plano West. The touchdown came at the end of a 98-yard drive that started at McKinney’s 2-yard line with 2:51 left on the clock. The victory was the first in district play for McKinney (2-4, 1-3 in District 6-6A).
West (5-2, 3-2) dominated most of the first half, out-gaining McKinney in total yardage 199 to 77, but a fumble return for a touchdown by Kaden Scoby-Lumpkin and a Smith-to-Griffin Shelley scoring pass late in the half kept the halftime score close at 21-14.
Shelley led the McKinney offense with 92 rushing yards and gained another 56 yards on two receptions. West quarterback Jordan Grant was the leading rusher in the game with 116 yards and added another 88 yards through the air.
