The Bobcats trailed 52-45 entering the fourth quarter. However, a 3-pointer by Georgia State’s Nari Powers at the start of the period would be their last made shot. Texas State went on a 13-2 run to take a 58-57 lead — the first time it had led since the 6-minute, 11-second mark in the second quarter. They made 6 of 14 shots and 10 of 11 free throws for 23 points while holding the Panthers to seven points.
Bobcats forward Kyra Anderson led the comeback. She recorded eight points and four rebounds in the fourth, finishing with 21 points and 15 rebounds, her seventh double-double of the season.Â
The game began innocuously, as the teams were tied at 16 after 10 minutes of play. But the Panthers ripped off a 24-point second quarter, taking a 40-30 lead that expanded to 46-30 with two free throws by Crystal Henderson. Anderson broke the scoring streak with Texas State’s first made basket of the second half with 5:08 left in the period, and Georgia State’s lead slowly began to disintegrate.Â
A layup by Texas State guard Saniya Burks cut the deficit to 50-45 with 1:19 to go in the third quarter, although Henderson answered with a bucket of her own. But the 13-6 run by Texas State to end the period was a sign of Georgia State’s impending collapse.
Texas State will return to San Marcos on Wednesday to face Georgia Southern — one of the best teams in the Sun Belt. The Eagles are 9-2 in conference play and are on a three-game winning streak.
