LUBBOCK, Texas— Adrian Casias, 17, was arrested on Wednesday, Oct. 1, on charges of deadly conduct with a firearm, possession, evading arrest and violating a promise to appear in connection with a September party that left one person dead and two injured.

PREVIOUS COVERAGE:

In September, EverythingLubbock.com reported that a party in the 5500 block of 76th Street resulted in the death of 20-year-old Deon Lilly and left two others injured. The Lubbock Police Department quickly issued a reward of up to $5,000 and encouraged anyone with additional information about the incident to contact Crime Line.

The affidavit obtained by EverythingLubbock.com on Monday afternoon states that during the incident, Casias was present at the party and witnessed a physical altercation taking place in the front yard, involving gunshots he believed were passing by him. He then proceeded to shoot multiple rounds in the direction from which the bullets were coming in retaliation.

Court records indicate that Casias did not aim at anyone specifically, but fired the gun over the heads of the people gathered in the front yard to intimidate them. Court records did not accuse Casias of causing injury or death to any of the parties involved. A warrant was then issued for his arrest.

Investigators searched his residence and discovered a pistol that matched the description provided by Casias. The investigation determined that this recovered pistol was connected to the shell casings found at the party.

In a separate incident on October 1, officers arrived on scene after a report of a male who was assaulting a female and had forced her into a Red Hyundai passenger car and was leaving westbound on 82nd Street.

The suspect was described as a Hispanic male wearing a black shirt and red shorts, later identified as Casias. During the investigation, Casias fled northward from Lubbock Police officers but was eventually located in the 2700 block of 80th Street, where he was taken into custody. Records also indicate that Casias possessed a THC pen.

He is now in the Lubbock County Detention Center on a bond totaling $80,000.
