Car stolen at New Mexico State University dorm

The car owner reported that he woke up to take his roommate to work when he noticed that his silver 2022 Nissan Altima was gone Thursday morning, the affidavit stated.

The car had been parked outside his dorm on Center Drive at New Mexico State University in Las Cruces and was last seen about 10 p.m. the previous night. The owner said that he had lost his car’s key fob while he was out, the complaint stated.

Car flees in Northeast El Paso neighborhood

About 3:15 p.m. Thursday, two El Paso police officers were patrolling, driving eastbound on Hercules Avenue, waiting at a traffic light at Dyer Street, when their patrol vehicle’s license plate reader “hit on a stolen vehicle” passing in front of them, the affidavit stated.

The vehicle was the Nissan Altima with a New Mexico plate that had been reported stolen at NMSU.

The Nissan continued northbound on Dyer Street when the patrol vehicle got behind it as it neared Sunrise Village shopping center. The Nissan turned east on Sierra Vista Drive before going onto Tetons Drive, where the driver allegedly made a stop-sign violation, the affidavit stated.

When police attempted to pull the car over, the Nissan’s driver refused to stop and sped away, heading east on Tetons in the Sunrise Acres East neighborhood. The affidavit described the chase as it continued:

The driver at one point attempted, but failed, to bail out of the car at the intersection of Tetons and Mount Baldy Drive and continued driving.

The car continued east on Tetons, then south on Diana Drive.

The car immediately turned west onto an alley north of Mountain View Park, then continued south as the alley turned before exiting onto Pandora Street.

The car continued south on Pandora for about four blocks at a high speed before smashing head-on through a rock wall on Apollo Avenue, where it meets Pandora at the edge of Fort Bliss property, police reported.
