EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The suspect in a deadly house party shooting that happened in far east El Paso in 2023 pleaded not guilty on Tuesday.
Angel Avila pleaded not guilty to capital murder of multiple persons, aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and aggravated assault with a weapon, brain injury/paralysis.
Police documents show that the deadly house party shooting in far east El Paso that killed two teenagers in September 2023 might have been an act of revenge.
A witness told police that Angel Avila, aka “Chino,” opened fire at a homecoming party on the 12300 block of Tierra Inca Drive after Avila spotted the people who he said shot at him at Socorro Park.
According to the witness, the person Avila was referring to was 18-year-old David Caldera aka “GG,” which Avila referred to as “opps” (opposition).
In released police documents, the witness describes the shooting started after Caldera stepped out of the party and Avila opened fire.

After the firing stopped, the witness told police they picked up a wounded Avila from the ground and drove him to the hospital.
According to police documents, on the drive to the hospital, Avila told the witness Caldera had shot him.
Furthermore, the witness told police a friend buried the gun in the desert after Avila left it in the car.
Detectives dug up the handgun from the desert near the 13000 block of Gateway East.
According to police documents, detectives followed the witness’s instructions and dug up the gun from the desert, which they refer to it as a “ghost gun” due to it not having a serial number.
According to lab results, the gun– which authorities referred to as a “ghost gun” due to it not having a serial number– was responsible for the two deaths and the other three injuries.
19-year-old Eliel Omar Bultron Hernandez died at the scene as a result of the shooting.

14-year-old Julia Worthington was taken to the hospital but died days later from her injuries.
Caldera, a 17-year-old and a 19-year-old– who reportedly was working security at the party– were injured.
