EL PASO, TEXAS (KFOX14/CBS4) — The El Paso County Sheriff’s Office said a 3-year-old boy died on Tuesday after being struck by an ATV near Horizon City.

According to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office, on Feb. 3 at approximately 6:07 p.m., deputies responded to a motor vehicle collision in the 600 block of Endwall Street.

Deputies discovered a serious collision involving an ATV that struck a 3-year-old boy crossing the roadway.

According to police, the child was transported to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Sheriff Oscar Ugarte responded to the incident, urging the public not to use ATVs on public roadways, “This is a heartbreaking and preventable tragedy. ATVs are not permitted on public roadways. These vehicles are not designed for street use, and when they are operated illegally, they create a serious safety risk. Our office will continue to take enforcement action, including impoundment.”

The investigation into the incident remains ongoing as the Sheriff’s Office confirmed no arrests have been made yet, and Special Traffic Investigators have taken over the investigation.
