EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The Socorro Independent School District has been recognized as the highest-scoring district in the El Paso region, according to the Texas Education Agency.
Superintendent James Vasquez discussed the district’s achievements and future direction on KFOX14 Community Conversations, highlighting improvements over the past year that have led to this success.
“The district leads at all levels in STAAR testing,” Vasquez said, emphasizing the importance of maintaining momentum without overwhelming educators and students.
In addition to the district’s academic accomplishments, Vasquez has been named to the National School Public Relations Association’s annual list of Superintendents to Watch.
This recognition comes after a challenging year in which the district faced a $42 million deficit. Vasquez, who was serving as interim superintendent at the time, took on the task of navigating the district through financial difficulties.
