EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Three men were arrested following a high-speed chase and foot pursuit after fleeing a traffic stop in El Paso County near Westway on Tuesday.

Deputies from the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office Gang and Narcotics Unit attempted to stop a Dodge Charger near Interstate 10 at Mile Marker 11 around 4:18 p.m.

The driver initially complied but then sped away westbound on Interstate 10 with four occupants inside, driving recklessly, officials said.

The vehicle collided with a black BMW while exiting the interstate and continued along North Desert Blvd, officials said.

The chase ended at Nashua Rd. and Spartan Dr. when the Charger hit a marked sheriff’s patrol unit.

Three male occupants fled on foot but were later apprehended.

Jorge Armando Rangel, 24, was charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle and held on a $25,000 bond. Ruben David Ramirez, 22, faced charges of evading arrest/detention and possession of a controlled substance PG 1 (≥4g {<}200g), with bonds totaling $40,000. Justin Lajes, 27, was charged with evading arrest/detention and held on a $10,000 bond.

Seriff Oscar Ugarte emphasized the dangers of fleeing, stating, “Fleeing from our deputies only creates unnecessary risks. Our priority is bringing these situations to a safe resolution and apprehending those involved while minimizing risk to the public and our deputies.”
