SAN ANTONIO – A Northside Independent School District middle school student is facing charges following a violent assault at Zachry Middle School, which was captured on video.

The footage shows 14-year-old Nevaeh Glen being dragged by her hair and repeatedly punched while other students watched. Teachers eventually intervened, but Nevaeh’s parents claim that warning signs were ignored.

Nevaeh has missed several days of school since the attack and fears further threats. “There’s so many other kids who are threatening to do stuff now, which means it’s just gonna get worse before it gets better, and I’m pretty sure someone’s gonna end up doing something,” she said.

Her father, Jesus Salazar, expressed frustration over the situation. “It felt personal, it sucks, because you know you can’t be there for your child while they’re going through this. And we really want to just get her voice out there for her,” he said.

The district confirmed that the attacker was arrested by district police and charged with assault and bodily injury.

However, the accused student is still allowed to attend classes, but has been issued disciplinary consequences, some of which are still pending. Nevaeh’s mother finds it unsettling.

“The school said, they’re going to have limited contact. She was going to be restricted to certain hallways, certain bathroom, like they were going to have. And when he said that, I said, Well, that’s not reassuring of my daughter’s protection,” she said.

Nevaeh’s mother says she’d spoken to a vice principal about the bullying just an hour before her daughter was assaulted.

The district stated that they take such incidents seriously and are working to prevent similar occurrences, though they did not specifically address whether more could have been done to prevent the attack.
