Two Texas women are wanted for an alleged crime spree in northwest Oklahoma City. The duo is accused of stealing wallets and car keys from lockers at local gyms. Oklahoma City police wrote 14 burglary reports in a two-day period. The victims told officers their property was stolen from their car or gym locker.
The two suspects went undetected in early October while hitting multiple gyms.
“It’s a crime of opportunity,” said Sgt. Dillon Quirk, Oklahoma City Police Department.
Targeting open lockers at two Crunch Fitness locations and a Planet Fitness. Police said the women searched through the victim’s bags, stealing wallets and car keys, then used those keys to break into cars outside to steal more wallets and credit cards.
“They were able to take that stolen property and use those victims’ credit cards at area stores,” said Quirk.
Police said the suspects used the stolen credit cards to buy thousands of dollars in gift cards. Court documents said once the crime sprees were over, the women traveled back to Texas.
“It appears they’re from out of state,” said Quirk. “Their reasoning for coming here is really unclear.”
Police learned the identities of the 20-year-old suspects by matching security video from the gyms to previous jail booking photos from Texas and social media accounts.
“Just a good reminder to use your lockers in a manner where somebody can’t break into them,” said Quirk. “And certainly, don’t leave valuables in your car.”
The suspects are wanted on multiple felony charges, including burglary. Police said the women have criminal records for committing similar crimes in counties just outside Dallas.
