Plano is set to welcome a striking new cultural and hospitality landmark as Miyako Hotels & Resorts, a subsidiary of Japan-based Kintetsu Group Holdings, begins construction on the Miyako Hybrid Hotel Plano.Â
The $117.5 million project will break ground on Oct. 15 at 11 a.m., marking the start of a 12-story boutique hotel designed to fuse Japanese sophistication with Texas hospitality.
The hotel will rise on land once part of the former JCPenney corporate campus, which Kintetsu acquired in 2019. When completed in fall 2027, the 273,000-square-foot property will bring 217 guestrooms to the heart of Plano’s growing business and entertainment district.
East-Meets-West Hospitality
Guests of the Miyako Hybrid Hotel Plano can expect an experience that highlights both tradition and innovation. The property will feature a traditional Japanese restaurant, an authentic Japanese bakery, an upscale lobby bar and versatile banquet and meeting spaces. Adding a distinctly local flair, the plans also include a Texas-style rooftop bar and outdoor pool, giving guests a taste of regional culture alongside Japanese refinement.

Additional amenities include a Japanese spa, designed to introduce cultural wellness traditions to business and leisure travelers alike. By weaving together Japanese service standards with Texas-inspired touches, the hotel aims to serve as a gathering place for international corporate guests and the local community.
Strategic Location And Cultural Significance
Situated near major corporate headquarters, including Toyota Motor North America, the hotel is expected to attract both Japanese business travelers and domestic visitors. The Plano location, designed by global architecture firm Gensler, will be Miyako’s first hotel in Texas and only its third in the United States, signaling the company’s long-term investment in North Texas as a hub for business and culture.
The groundbreaking ceremony will feature speakers from Kintetsu Group Holdings, Plano Mayor John Muns, Zentaro Naganuma, Consul General of Japan in Houston and representatives from Beck Construction.Â

With construction officially underway later this year, excitement is building for what promises to be one of Plano’s most distinctive hospitality destinations. By combining Japanese elegance with Texan charm, the Miyako Hybrid Hotel Plano aims to redefine luxury hospitality in the region.
