Texas Tech Softball shuts out Bryant, moves to 6-0

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (TEXAS TECH ATHLETICS) – The No. 1/2 Red Raiders (6-0) run-ruled Bryant by a score of 12-0 on Sunday to close out its opening weekend.

Samantha Lincoln improved to 2-0 on the season and is the first Red Raider to pitch a shutout this season. Lincoln finished the game allowing just two hits while striking out four batters on just 58 pitches.

Mia Williams continued to terrorize opposing pitchers, recording a two-RBI double and drawing a walk. Mihyia Davis, Jasmyn Burns and Lagi Quiroga each recorded two RBI as well. Burns two RBI represented the first runs of the game while Quiroga got her RBI on a home run in the fourth inning.

Lauren Allred and Kaitlyn Terry went 2-for-2 with an RBI each at the bottom of the lineup. Every Tech batter reached base and came around to score. The Red Raiders are at 64 runs on the season with 12 home runs. – last year it took Tech 12 games to reach 64 runs and 16 games to get 12 home runs

How it happened:

Taylor Pannell and Jackie List drew walks in the first inning with two outs which allowed Jasmyn Burns to work a 3-2 count a hit a ball hard out to center field to bring them both home to give Tech an early 2-0 lead.

Lincoln was in command the whole game, dropping her ERA down to 1.40 on the season and has 11 strikeouts through 10.0 innings of work.

Allred and Terry reached base to start the second inning via a hit by pitch and bunt single. Davis laid down a bunt single as well to score a run and then Williams doubled and scored on a wild pitch before Jackie Lis tripled to bring home Taylor Pannell who reached on a walk.

The third inning was started by a Hailey Toney walk. She would score on a double from Allred, Allred scored on a single by Terry and Terry scored on a sac-fly by Davis.

Quiroga recorded the final runs of the game for Tech, driving a ball deep to left field for her second home run of the season.

UP NEXT: Tech will travel to Clearwater for the Shriner’s Invitational next week.
