EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — The University of Texas at El Paso has received a historic $30 million donation from alumnus Miguel Loya, leading to the renaming of its engineering college as the Miguel A. Loya College of Engineering.

This contribution, the largest in the university’s history, will fund the Miguel A. Loya Scholarship Program, offering full-ride scholarships and additional support to top engineering students.

“UTEP had an extraordinary impact on my life and trajectory,” Loya said. “I am thrilled to be able to give back to this wonderful university and support future Miners on their own journeys.”

UTEP President Heather Wilson expressed gratitude, stating, “This transformational gift from Miguel Loya will be one of the most generous in the nation and will support the best students who want to become engineers.”

The scholarship program aims to recruit exceptional talent, with applications opening in Fall 2026 and the first cohort enrolling in Fall 2027.
