CCISD will have to find a replacement for the winning coach in Buccaneers history.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — One of the top football coaches in the Coastal Bend is set to have a new home as Justen Evans is leaving the Miller Buccaneers to take a job in the Dallas-Forth Worth area.

The school board in DFW is expected to approve Evans’ hire later Tuesday night.

Evans leaves as the winningest coach record wise in Miller history. He leaves the area with an 84-36 record between nine seasons with the Bucs and one in Alice. Miller reached the region final three times under his leadership.

Evans, a graduate of Moody, says the decision to leave his hometown wasn’t as easy one.

“The Coastal Bend is the only thing I’ve ever known, but it’s time for something new.” Evans said.

Arguably one of the top jobs in the area in Miller is now open. And that’s directly because of Evans. The Bucs were 3-27 in the previous three seasons when he took over in 2017 and hadn’t had a winning record since 2001.
