CCPD officials told 3NEWS on Tuesday that the cyclist who was hit by a semi-truck last Monday has died. No charges are expected for the driver.
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A bicyclist has died following a collision with a semi-truck earlier this month on Corpus Christi’s Southside, police confirmed Tuesday.
CCPD PIO Antonio Contreras told 3NEWS that officers with the Corpus Christi Police Department were dispatched around 8:31 p.m. last Monday to the intersection of Saratoga Boulevard and Jefferson Street for a major traffic accident involving a pedal cyclist and a semi-truck.
When officers arrived, they located the cyclist, who was transported to a local hospital with serious injuries.Â
Contreras confirmed Tuesday that the cyclist later died from those injuries.
Traffic investigators determined the cyclist failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign while attempting to cross Saratoga Boulevard. Police said the semi-truck was traveling eastbound on Saratoga Boulevard when it struck the cyclist.
The driver of the semi-truck remained at the scene, police said.
No charges are expected for the driver.Â
No additional information has been released, and the investigation is ongoing.
