EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Locomotive FC announced on Tuesday it had signed goalkeeper Abraham Romero ahead of the 2026 USL Championship season. The transaction is pending league and federation approval and per club policy terms of the signing were not disclosed.

Romero arrives in El Paso having most recently competed for Columbus Crew of Major League Soccer, where he served primarily as a back-up but made two appearances in Major League Soccer for the club. This past season the 27-year-old spent time on loan with Colorado Springs Switchbacks FC, where he logged 15 saves in five appearances and a save percentage of 62.5 percent.

“Abraham is an experienced, competitive goalkeeper with a very high soccer IQ,” said Locomotive Head Coach Junior Gonzalez. “We feel that he will fit our system perfectly and be a great addition to our club”

A native of Pasadena, Calif., Romero has extensive experience competing in the USL Championship since making his debut for the LA Galaxy II in the 2019 season. He has recorded 164 saves in 53 appearances and recorded 11 shutouts, also competing for Orange County SC and Las Vegas Lights FC prior to his most recent stint with the Switchbacks.

Internationally, Romero started a pair of matches for the United States U-15 national team in 2012. He then featured in Mexico’s youth system making 14 appearances across their U-17, U-20 and U-21 squads.
