LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. – The UT Arlington women’s golf team saw its first action of the spring, competing in the first two rounds of the BGSU Women’s Intercollegiate. The Mavericks kicked off the spring slate with a bang, ending the day in second place out of a 15-team field.
UTA ended the day with a 7-over-par, seven strokes back of first-place UTEP.
The Mavericks were led by Kamri Gabel, who carded an even-par 71 and 1-under-par 70 in each round respectively. The senior recorded 22 pars across both rounds — including 13 in the second — and finished in a tie for fourth. Gabel is three back of UTEP’s Atikan Cherdchoo for the lead.
Right behind Gabel was Nitisha Manikandesh who ended the day 1-over-par and in ninth place. Manikandesh’s day was highlighted by a 1-under-par 70 in the first round that featured 15 pars. The senior was in third place going into round two.
Chandler Browning also kept pace, finishing with scores of 71-73– 144. Browning’s 2-over-par has her in a tie for 14th. The redshirt senior birdied three holes on the back nine in round one.
Tarini Bhoga had a solid day as well, finishing in a tie for 23rd with a 5-over-par 147 highlighted by three birdies on the back nine during the second round.
Rounding out the Mavericks is Nirjara Gulhane. The junior will enter the final day of play in a tie for 61st after rounds of 74-83– 157. Gulhane had 13 pars in round one.
UTA tees off its final round at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Wigwam Golf Club – Blue Course. Live scoring can be followed here.
