Those who plan to shop at Fort Worth’s first-ever BJ’s Wholesale Club can sign up for their membership starting this week.

A competitor with Sam’s Club and Costco, the wholesale grocery store will be located near Chisholm Trail Parkway in southwest Fort Worth. The nearest Costco is nearly three miles away and the nearest Sam’s Club is just under four miles north.

BJ’s Wholesale Club is similar to its competitors with membership models: only card members can purchase items from the store. BJ’s does offer one-day passes for non-members who would like to shop (or test it out).

BJ’s membership prices normally start at $60 a year. But thanks to new club deals, founding members can get a one-year membership for 65 percent off. Customers can begin enrolling for a founding membership this Friday.

The “founding member special offer” is good until May 14.

Founding members can choose from two packages:

A one-year Club Card Membership for $20 (normally $60) as well as an additional 10 cents off a gallon at BJ’s gas for six months after the club opening.A one-year BJ’s Club+ Membership for $50 (normally $120) as well as 20 cents off a gallon at BJ’s gas for six months after club opening.

Those interested can sign up online or in-person at the membership center.

The membership center is open Monday to Saturday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

The new $9.5 million BJ’s Wholesale Club is slated to open this spring.

The 106,000-square-foot space is located at 7241 Harris Parkway in southwestern Fort Worth near Altamesa Boulevard and the Chisholm Trail Parkway.

Shoppers can buy groceries from the deli and bakery as well as electronics, clothing, household goods and other bulk products.

A company spokesperson told the Star-Telegram that the store “consistently offers 25% or more savings on a representative basket of manufacturer-branded groceries compared to traditional supermarket competitors.”

This isn’t the only BJ’s Wholesale Club coming to North Texas. Other clubs are slated to open this year in Grand Prairie, along U.S. 77 in Waxahachie and east of Dallas in Forney.

The Massachusetts-based company has a rapid growth plan of opening 25 to 30 new stores, some in Texas, within the next five years.

The new club opening in Fort Worth is in an awfully competitive landscape. Besides the nearby Costco and Sam’s Clubs, Target plans to build a $22 million store three miles south of BJ’s off Chisholm Trail Parkway. And H-E-B owns land near that Target site, though there has not been an announcement on what this land will be.
