When it comes to dating in Lubbock, everyone’s got an opinion—but not everyone’s brave enough to say it out loud. Sadly, that leads to dating the wrong person for too long and ending up jaded and cold. We’ve got to be more honest about what we really want!

I asked single women in Lubbock to tell me exactly what qualities they look for when it comes to dating a Hub City man. Their answers were overwhelmingly honest and heartfelt, with a few doses of brutal reality sprinkled in. (Don’t worry, fellas. We’ll cover what men want from Lubbock ladies tomorrow.)

What I found might surprise you: turns out, most women aren’t chasing money, abs, or a lifted F-250. They’re looking for something deeper— like effort, humor, honesty, and a man who can hold a conversation without nodding off or checking his Snapchat.

It’s time to retire the old myth that women only want looks and cash. West Texas women are out here looking for heart, humor, and someone who knows the difference between flirting and being weird at Market Street.

What Lubbock Women Have To Say
So, if you’re a Lubbock man wondering what actually matters, you’re in the right place. Check out what ladies in town have to say about the traits they love (and hate) in Lubbock men:
Nichole, 33 – “To me, the best traits in a guy are being liberal, intelligent, kind, and compassionate. I think the worst traits in a man are ignorance, entitlement, laziness, a lack of kindness, and selfishness. Also, a man doesn’t need a huge penis; he just needs to be knowledgeable in women’s anatomy and how to pleasure her, PERIOD.”
Altah, 47 – “Good ol’ Lubbock smart-assery has always made me swoon!”
Jay, 34 – “He’s gotta be goofy and NOT have anger issues. Also, empathy is hot. Show me you understand stuff from other people’s points of view and that you aren’t completely self-absorbed.”

Christina, 47 – “I think a good quality is that many men still possess old-fashioned traits, such as opening car doors and being kind to strangers. Many of them still say please and thank you. However, many damaged men haven’t sought therapy or given themselves time to heal, often jumping from one relationship to the next. I guess we women can be guilty of that, too.”
Hillary, 44 – “The problem with Lubbock men for me has always been addiction. Alcohol, meth, or MAGA. So many men there make being horny their entire personality, too.”
Kimmi, 21 – “I want a man with a sense of humor, a job, and no meth addiction.”

At the end of the day, every answer came down to one thing: Lubbock singles want relationships with men who put in effort. Be kind. Be funny. Be honest. Text back. Wash your truck, and wear deodorant. Know the difference between confidence and cockiness. And maybe, just maybe, ask someone how their day was before texting them a photo of your new grill.
Don’t Give Up, You’ll Find The One
Lubbock might be full of dust, wind, and bad first dates—but there’s also a lot of hope out here. People still want love. They still want a genuine connection. And the ones who are brave enough to show up as their real selves? Those are the ones who end up with the best stories to tell.
