Man on trial for murder made sexual calls from jail to child in Collin County, DA says

A man who was serving 10 years in prison for a murder in Oklahoma was sentenced to life in prison after evidence showed he made sexual calls to a minor in Collin County during his murder trial, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Anthony Dewayne Taylor, 46, of Frisco, was sentenced to life in prison by a Collin County jury on a sexual performance of a child charge due to his prior felony convictions and history of being a confirmed gang member who sexually abused a child, according to a news release from the Collin County district attorney’s office.

While on parole for a drug trafficking charge in Oklahoma in 2020, prosecutors said Taylor reconnected with the family of his victim and gained access to the child. The abuse of the child started when she was 14-years-old and continued in multiple states and cities across Texas until she was 16.

In October 2022, Taylor was arrested for murder in Oklahoma City. He pled guilty for the murder and was sentenced to 10 years in prison and 20 years parole.

However, prosecutors said that while Taylor was in jail awaiting his trial in Oklahoma, he called the child various times while she lived in Collin County. During the calls, Taylor was accused of asking the girl to “engage in lewd acts,” prosecutors said in the release.

The girl later reported the abuse to the Frisco Police Department and provided details of the phone calls between her and Taylor. The recorded jail calls were obtained from Oklahoma, which led to Taylor’s sexual performance charges.

During his trial the jury learned of Taylor’s prior criminal history, which prosecutors said dates back to 1999. He faced a sentenced of five to 99 years or life in prison and was given the maximum.
