The purpose of this job fair is to offer job-seekers of all backgrounds rewarding career opportunities with one of the most well-known nonprofits in America. This event also serves as a chance to hire more staff for the new store scheduled to open in March of this year at 11703 Indiana Ave. here in Lubbock.

If this is something you or some friends would be interested in, feel free to stop by tomorrow at the job fair or call Lubbock’s Goodwill contact, Renee Carrillo at (806) 744-8419 for more information.

Do You Know the History of Goodwill?

What may be surprising to hear is that Goodwill first began over 120 years ago in Boston, 1902. Reverend Edgar J. Helms wanted to provide a way to support those struggling during the turn of the century. His solution was to collect donated goods and give them away to the poor.

Over time, the work began to grow with the large amount of donations. Helms then decided to explore a new approach: He hired employees to fix and repair the used goods.

From this practice, the Goodwill philosophy—”a hand up, not a hand-out”— was born.

The first Goodwill in Lubbock opened its doors in 1967 with assistance from the Lubbock Lions Club and the Downtown Rotary Club. Over the years, Goodwill has supported over 20,000 jobs across the South Plains, and Goodwill Industries of Lubbock now encompasses 45 counties across Texas.
