The southbound lanes of the Sam Rayburn Tollway are closed on Wednesday afternoon while rescuers work to remove a crashed wrecker dangling off an overpass.

The Texas Department of Public Safety confirmed to NBC 5 that the driver of the wrecker towing two vehicles was attempting to avoid a collision with a disabled vehicle when they lost control, struck the disabled vehicle and hit the bridge’s concrete wall.

The truck’s cab smashed through the concrete wall and came to a stop dangling off the overpass.

The McKinney Fire Department rescued the wrecker driver, who was treated for minor injuries. The driver of the stalled vehicle was transported to a local hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The southbound lanes of the SRT are closed while the crash is cleared, and three lanes are blocked on the northbound side. The crash is about a mile west of Central Expressway. The backup on northbound 121 stretches more than two miles. The ramp from Central to the SRT is closed.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing and police have not confirmed any other details.
