HORIZON CITY, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 75-year-old man was arrested Sunday afternoon in Horizon after police officers said he tried to escape from a traffic stop.

According to the Horizon City Police Department, Manuel Vera Mendez was driving in the area of Horizon Boulevard at around 12:38 p.m. when officers activated their lights to pull him over.

Officers said Mendez failed to pull over and instead continued, leading police officers on a pursuit.

Police reported that Mendez eventually came to a stop in the 14500 block of Horizon Boulevard, near Horizon High School, where he was arrested.

Jail records show Mendez was booked into the El Paso County Downtown Jail and charged with evading arrest/detention with a vehicle, with a bond set at $4,000.

According to jail records, Mendez was released from jail after posting a surety bond on Monday.
