Five teenagers were arrested after firing guns into a Fort Worth neighborhood on Super Bowl Sunday, with surveillance cameras capturing the dangerous incident that sent bullets flying past residents’ heads.
Fort Worth police said the shooting occurred along Yuma Street, a dead-end road considered a crime hotspot. Video from police cameras connected to the Real Time Crime Center showed five men firing weapons into the air late Sunday night.
Officer Cynthia Wood said multiple 911 callers reported hearing gunshots and bullets passing dangerously close.
“So we had several citizens that called in saying that they were in the area, and they could hear the bullets pass by them,” Wood said, Fox 4 KDFW reported.
One resident showed damage to his truck’s windshield from the gunfire. Others told police that bullets flew near their heads during the incident.
“They’re out there thinking it’s for fun that they’re just going to be out here shooting in the air, but those bullets come down, and they end up somewhere,” Wood said. She warned that stray bullets could strike homes, vehicles, or pedestrians.
Police tracked the suspects using their license plate number obtained from surveillance footage. Officers conducted a traffic stop and safely detained all five men.
“They relayed that information to the officers that were in the area and those officers were able to detain them safely and take them into custody,” Wood said, per Fox 4.
The arrested suspects face multiple charges: Darius Chandler, 19; Alfredo Jimenez, 18; Draylon Williams, 18; Donavan Wright, 18; and Izac Villarreal, 19.
Body camera footage showed officers ordering suspects to comply during the arrest. “Walk backwards, take a step,” an officer commanded in the video.
Authorities hope publicizing the arrests and surveillance presence will deter future incidents.
“It appears that they were just out trying to shoot into the air, which is very dangerous,” Wood said, noting bullets can land anywhere.
No injuries were reported in the Sunday night shooting.
