Construction has begun on the $1.7 billion Westside Village development on the corner of North University and Westside drives.

The first phase of the project will include a luxury apartment complex with more than 300 units, 100,000 square feet of premier class office space, shops, two restaurants, a private social club, and an underground jazz club, according to Moss Construction.

Crews have been digging at the site over the past few weeks. Parking at the development will be underground.

A six-story office and retail space will anchor the northeast corner of University Drive and Westside Drive, which is the new name of this stretch of White Settlement Road. The name change came at the request of Dallas-based developer Larkspur Capital and its Fort Worth-based partner Keystone Group, LP.

The site is where Fort Worth ISD’s administration building used to be, next to the row of Autobahn dealerships.

Westside Village will be built in four stages over 15 years. When complete, the 37-acre project is expected to have around 880,000 square feet of office space, 238,000 square feet of shops, 1,785 residential units and a luxury hotel.

The office space alone will be the largest addition to the city’s inventory in 43 years, according to the city’s economic development office.

“Breaking ground on the first phase of Westside Village marks a major milestone in advancing this long-term vision,” said Schafer Smartt, vice president of development at Larkspur Capital, in the press release.

He added that the district is designed to weave the office space, shops, residences, and public spaces into a walkable space that delivers lasting value for the city.

A ceremonial groundbreaking for the project is scheduled for March 5. The first phase is expected to be complete by 2028.

The city is supporting the project with a $125 million grant package to help address flooding concerns at the site.
