If you’re looking for a little extra cash to cover those holiday bills, you might want to consider the scalping biz since El Paso always seems to need these things.

“Scalpers” have typically just marked up the prices on tickets to sold out events. Nowadays, actual ticket outlets like Ticketmaster have become the scalpers; buying up their own tickets to resell.

That’s hard to compete with but there are other items you can “scalp” in El Paso that could be quite lucrative …

The holidays are here and if you want a little help paying for them … on top of Christmas presents, Thanksgiving turkeys will cost a bundle this year … here are a couple of hacks to generate some extra cash to help.

My premise is simple; find something that you know will be in short supply over the holidays, buy a bunch and resell it at an upcharge.

What Items Sell Out In El Paso?

There’s always at least one trendy gift that nobody can find you could resell but the odds of you finding one are just as bad as everyone else’s so you need to think a little more practically.

Menudo

This is a great starting point because you can do this immediately and get your cash flow started. Find the best menudo place in town and buy gallons of the stuff because, you know, come Sunday morning; they’ll run out. Refrigerate or freeze your stash and Sunday morning, set up a little stand around the corner from your chosen restaurant and sell yours to their disappointed customers. At a markup.

Tamales

Basically, it’s “Operation: Menudo” all over again. You know tamales fly off the shelves over Thanksgiving and Christmas so stock up NOW. Bowie Bakery, Gussie’s … whoever you think makes them best … load up and wait. Remember; buy low, sell high.

Booze

Thanksgiving and Christmas are 2 of 4 days that liquor stores in Texas can’t open on. With family and friends over, you know peeps are going to run out. Enter you, with a trunk load of tequila and before you know it, your stocking is stuffed.

Side note: Selling booze without a license and/or outside of mandated hours is totally illegal.
