The Intercultural Student Engagement Center is hosting the second annual Rhythm & Soul Fest, a night rooted in African American music, culture and legacy.

The concert will take place from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday at Texas Hall. Admission for students, faculty, staff and alumni is free, according to the UTA events website.

Shabaz Brown, the center’s director, said the concert will feature hip-hop artist Doug E. Fresh, gospel singer Le’Andria Johnson and R&B group SWV.

Brown said she is excited for students to experience the aspects of music that historically come together to influence the music heard today.

“A lot of the current artists that we listen to are heavily influenced by the artists that are going to be on that stage, and that is what I hope that students take with them,” she said.

Brown said the event is an opportunity to honor individuals in the community.

“It is a concert, but it is truly a night of excellence to celebrate those who have poured into our community right here in Dallas,” Brown said.
