Olive oil ice cream in a homemade waffle cone, anyone? What about a scoop of pear and blue cheese?

A West Coast cult favorite ice cream company, Salt & Straw, is making its North Texas debut soon .

Salt & Straw began in Portland in 2011 and gained popularity for its unique, locally sourced flavors. Their “Arbenquina Olive Oil” ice cream has Oregon-made olive oil folded into rich vanilla ice-cream. The strawberry honey ice cream has a tangy twist with balsamic glaze and black pepper folded in.

The ice cream is rich, packed with as much butter-fat content as possible– similar to Melt. As for flavors, if you like Morgan’s Ice Cream in South Main (which offers a rotating monthly menu of adventurous flavors), Salt & Straw may strike your fancy as well.

The brand is prominent in California, Oregon and Washington but has also spread to the East Coast. Here’s when North Texans can get a taste.

Where will Salt & Straw open in North Texas?

The Fort Worth location will be at 1305 W. Magnolia Ave., just a block away from Melt Ice Cream.

Both Melt and Salt & Straw offer creamy and rich artisanal ice cream with high butterfat contents. The main difference between the two will be the flavors each offer at that given time. Like Salt & Straw, Melt offers common favorites like Cookie Dough and Rocky Road year-round, as well as limited-time “sometimes flavors” that feature seasonal flavors throughout the year.

The new Salt & Straw space is next door to Pie Tap pizzeria in the previous Effin’ Egg location, which closed in late 2024.

The Dallas store will be located at 2323 N. Henderson Ave.
