Black Midyear Corvettes are among the most desirable cars out there. With just 815 units built in 1967, Tuxedo Black was the lowest production color that year. Whenever a black C2 Corvette comes up for sale, you can expect a throng of eager collectors ready to park it in their garage.

Mecum Auctions has 2 such examples out of the Legacy Classics collection coming up for sale next week at their Dallas/Ft. Worth sale. The Tuxedo black twins are crossing Mecum’s signature red carpet in succession on Saturday, November 1st. The coupe (Lot S190) and convertible (Lot S191) twins have way more than their just stealthy exteriors in common.

Both cars are powered by the rare 400hp L68 variant of the 427ci engine. Only 2,101 Corvettes were produced with this engine in 1967. That’s a little over half as many as the coveted 427/435hp L71 powerplant. It was also the highest horsepower engine buyers could pair with RPO C60, air conditioning that year.

Other commonalities between these Sting Rays include highly desirable air conditioning, red stingers, black interiors, side exhaust, power steering, power brakes, bolt on wheels, and red line tires. The coupe features a 4-speed manual transmission while the convertible controls shifts via a Powerglide automatic. The convertible comes with a black soft top as well as the optional hardtop.

Finding one black 400hp C2 with air conditioning is always a challenging task. Finding two, together? That’s nearly impossible. Expect this dynamic duo to elicit spirited bidding when they cross the block back-to-back on Saturday, November 1st.

Mecum’s Dallas/Ft. Worth event runs Wednesday, October 29th through Saturday, November 1st at the Dickies Arena in Fort Worth, Texas. An estimated 1,500 vehicles are expected to be consigned to the auction. ESPN+ will have live coverage Thursday, Friday, and Saturday from 12pm – 6pm local time.
