A Fort Bend County Sheiff’s deputy was struck by a hit-and-run vehicle while attempting to help a stranded motorist Saturday morning and is recovering in a hospital.
The driver who hit the officer drove off after the incident about 3:45 am along I-10 the Katy Freeway at Eldridge in West Houston.
The Sheriff’s Department says the deputy was in his personal car when he stopped to help.
He’s listed in critical but stable condition, with no other details available.
In a social media post, the Sheriff stated, “Our hearts and prayers are with Deputy Lewis and his family.”
