CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas — A late-night commercial fire caused heavy damage to a single-story building on the city’s west side, according to Corpus Christi Fire Department Chief Tony Perez.

Firefighters were called to the 1400 block of South 19th Street just before midnight Saturday, around 11:58 p.m., after reports of a commercial structure fire. Chief Perez said Rescue 3 crews arrived to find heavy fire conditions, with flames coming through the roof.

Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire and brought it under control, preventing further spread.

The building was vacant and no injuries were reported.

Chief Perez said they continue to investigate the cause of the fire.
