The shirtless fans in section 231 on Saturday in OSU’s 39-17 loss to Houston may have stolen the headlines, but in the midst of all the coaching changes and player movement, a selfless decision by Sam Jackson V deserves more attention.

His numbers weren’t impressive, and the outcome for the Cowboys wasn’t what they’d hoped for, but the receiver-pressed-into-quarterback had a major contribution Saturday against the Cougars. It’s one he gave great insight about afterward.
“It was my position to change my position,” said Jackson. “I don’t really think that my circle and the people around me thought that I should do that. It was just me trying to be mature about what I’ve got going on.”
“I just appreciate it that he would do that for his teammates,” said interim head coach Doug Meacham. “I know that he loves playing quarterback, but I think he feels like, moving forward, if he has a chance at the next level, it would be as a return guy or slot receiver. So he’s kind of making a sacrifice as well.”
Meacham told reporters on Monday that Zane Flores, while he may miss this week, will not be out for the rest of the season. Season-opening starter Hauss Hejny is walking around in a boot as he continues to heal from foot surgery, but expects to return at some point. Jackson will get his second straight start when the Cowboys host Cincinnati on homecoming this Saturday at 7:00 p.m.
