HOUSTON – What happens when language is the one thing standing between you and the life you want? That’s the heart of ‘English,’ now on stage at the Alley Theatre.
It’s funny, it’s heartfelt, and it’s incredibly timely…not to mention it’s a Pulitzer Prize winner.
The play takes us inside an english-language classroom in Iran, where adults prepare for the TOEFL exam. Grammar lessons turn into life lessons, while the cast brings all the humor and humanity to this award-winning story.
The timeless play resonates with anyone who has ever felt caught between cultures or languages, featuring a story about aspiration, vulnerability, and connection.
Performances run through March 8th, and you can find tickets and at alleytheatre.org/English.
Watch as Lauren Kelly gets a behind the scenes look at the production with cast members Jamie Rezanour, (“Marjan “) and Shadee Vossoughi, (“Elham.”)
