It will be an even warmer late-February afternoon across Texas on Wednesday. Highs will soar into the 80s and 90s, nearly 20 degrees above average for this time of year. Sunshine continues Wednesday and through the rest of the week, making rain unlikely even into the weekend. While record-breaking temperatures appear unlikely, we could come close, especially Thursday across South Central Texas. With little to no rainfall and occasionally gusty southerly winds, fire danger will remain a concern for at least the next seven days.

1. President Trump to visit Corpus Christi days before Texas primary
A White House source has confirmed to Spectrum News that President Donald Trump will pay a visit to Corpus Christi on Feb. 27 to give a speech on energy and the economy.
This comes just days before an already hotly contested primary election on March 3, featuring a marquee battle in the Republican U.S. Senate race between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and U.S. Rep. Wesley Hunt.
2. Calls grow for Texas Rep. Gonzales to resign over allegations of affair with ex-staffer
U.S. Rep. Tony Gonzales of Texas faced growing calls Tuesday from fellow congressional Republicans to resign over a report of an alleged affair with a former staffer who later died after she set herself on fire.
The death of the longtime leader of the Cártel Jalisco Nueva Generación, known as “El Mencho,” triggered coordinated retaliation across multiple Mexican states, including highway blockades and vehicles set on fire. Border cities such as Reynosa and Ciudad Juárez saw heightened security measures as authorities urged residents to stay off the streets.
While conditions appeared calmer on Monday as compared to Sunday, officials on both sides of the border continued to advise caution, with spring break travel fast approaching.

Waymo launches expansion into several Texas cities, Orlando
Waymo will expand its operations into Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Orlando, the company announced in a news release on Tuesday.
Rides will be selectively offered to users in these cities who have downloaded the Waymo app. New users will be invited to use Waymo’s services on a rolling basis, to make the transition into these cities more successful, the company said.
