AUSTIN, Texas — A man was arrested on drunken driving charges after allegedly striking a pedestrian in south Austin last week, police said.

Bijan Cyrus Irani, 34, was arrested the evening of Feb. 20 after Austin Police Department officers responded to a crash in the 9300 block of Menchaca Road at 6:53 p.m.

Officers arriving on scene found a vehicle stopped in the center turn lane with significant front-end damage. A man was found with severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Irani remained at the scene. Officers conducted a driving while intoxicated investigation, including standardized field sobriety testing, and determined Irani was intoxicated. He was placed under arrest.

During the investigation, officers also located a handgun in Irani’s vehicle.

Irani was charged with driving while intoxicated, a Class B misdemeanor, and unlawful carrying of a weapon, a Class A misdemeanor.

The investigation is ongoing.
