Tacos A GoGo is a well-known Houston classic that has been in the game for over 19 years. They are most notable for their Tex-Mex cuisine that is vibrant, flavorful, and can even be described as quirky. There is a classic side of the menu full of authentic Mexican dishes with the warmth and care you get from home, and a Tex-Mex side with the staples and twists that we all know and love. We had the pleasure of being a part of the grand opening event of their new restaurant located at 2231 S. Voss Rd. and were met with an inviting and vibrant ambiance you wouldn’t want to miss.

Atmosphere
Upon arrival, we were greeted with smiles and lively music that made us feel welcome and set a great precedent to how amazing our experience was to come. The staff were swift and had us seated and helped with no time to spare and ensured that we felt taken care of and comfortable. The restaurant was enriched with colorful hues of reds and yellows and was decorated with charming accent walls and light fixtures that created an energetic and lively atmosphere.
The Menu
During the event, we had the chance to select items from their menu to taste, ranging from their appetizers to their well-loved tacos. We started with chips and dip and got the chance to try their habanero queso blanco and their salsa fuego. The habanero queso blanco was rich, creamy, and seriously addictive. The salsa fuego was smokey, fiery, and had a kick that was sure to leave a mark but kept us wanting more.

Moving from the appetizers, we then had the opportunity to choose a taco each, which of course we had to have a bite from both the traditional street tacos and the Tex-Mex favorites. From the traditional tacos we tried the pastor taco and from the Tex-Mex tacos we chose the grilled shrimp taco. The pastor taco consisted of sliced pork fajita, house-made guajillo, morita, and chile ancho salsa, with caramelized onion and pineapple to pull it all together. The grilled shrimp taco included seasoned shrimp, sliced avocado, citrus cabbage, habanero cream salsa, scallions and was topped with pico de gallo and queso fresco. Both tacos were wrapped in house-made flour tortillas that were buttery soft and added coziness to these flavorful bites.

The Bar
With the opening of this new location there was an addition of a full bar and high-top seating that created the entire bar experience. We decided to indulge and chose to order two frozen margaritas. All margaritas are made with the classic lime base, frozen or on the rocks, and have the option to add different flavor inclusions. For the first margarita we decided to make it “fruity” which added a strawberry and basil house made syrup and is garnished with a lime. The second margarita we made “weird” which included a pico de gallo house made syrup and was garnished with pico, lime, and an aloe leaf. The margaritas were bold with crisp tequila, but sweet and tangy with the lime and inclusions. The bar is truly the perfect added umph to the establishment because who doesn’t want a margarita alongside their tacos?
Final Thoughts
Tacos A GoGo is the place to be while adventuring into Houston. The experience was top notch and has made me excited about future visits. From the helpful and welcoming staff to the bold and delicious food, it is more than just a restaurant, but a whole experience.
