WASHINGTON (TNND) — Rapper Cardi B is throwing her support behind Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) in the highly competitive Senate primary race, which has become the most expensive primary race in the nation’s history.
The “WAP” artist shared a video message to her 164 million Instagram followers, directly calling on her Texas followers to cast a ballot for Crockett over Democratic state Rep. James Talarico.
“Listen up, y’all, early primary voting is happening right now in Texas, and we need Jasmine Crockett to win. She is running for U.S. Senate,” Cardi B said in her story.
“And if you want somebody that’s going to fight for your right, if you want somebody to fight for your community, if you want somebody that’s going to go up there and represent you and represent your issue please vote for my sister, Jasmine Crockett, because one thing about it, she’s going to fight her best. She’s going to fight whoever she has to so your voice and your problems could be heard,” Cardi B, legally named Belcalis Marlenis Almánzar, said.
Crockett celebrated Cardi B’s endorsement on X, pushing Texans to go out and take advantage of early voting before it ends Friday.
Crockett is currently leading Talarico in the University of Texas/Texas Politics Project poll by 56% to 44%.
Talarico, who has served in the Texas legislature since 2018, has worked to build up his national political profile, having previously appeared on the Joe Rogan Experience podcast last year. He was interviewed by James Colbert for “The Late Night Show” but that interview ultimately was not aired due to concerns from CBS based upon a directive from the Trump administration. However, the interview was posted to Colbert’s YouTube.
Although, polls show Crockett to be the favored Democratic nominee; political strategists say she faces a tougher battle in the general election. A Democratic has not held a U.S. Senate in Texas in more than thirty years.
On the Republican ticket, it’s a three-way fight between incumbent Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX), Attorney General Ken Paxton and Rep. Wesley Hunt (R-TX).
Between the Democratic and Republican candidates, more than $110 million have been spent on advertisements.
