On Monday, officers responded to the 11500 block of Rojas to an assault in progress. Officers met with the victim, a 44-year-old delivery driver, who told police that as he attempted to make a turn, he saw a red Jeep, the driver later identified as Vazquez, traveling at a high rate of speed and swerved to avoid a crash.
The delivery driver turned into his destination and Vazquez followed him.
In the video captured by the delivery driver with his Meta glasses, Vazquez climbs into the delivery truck, telling the delivery driver, “What’s your problem, dude?” in Spanish.
The driver replies, “What?” and Vazquez tells the man, “Why did you hit me with a truck?” The video cuts to Vazquez raising his hand at the driver, and cuts again to show Vazquez swinging at the delivery driver. The glasses appeared to be knocked away from the delivery driver.
EPPD said road rage is more than just frustration; it’s dangerous and can quickly become criminal. Here are some tips police give to help with road rage:
Do not respond with aggression
Do not follow or confront them
Give yourself space and move on.
“We understand traffic can be stressful, but anger behind the wheel puts lives at risk, including your own,” according to El Paso police.
If you feel threatened, call 911 immediately. “One bad decision can have lifelong consequences. Choose patience. Choose safety,” EPPD said.
